55 Enjoyable Autumn Actions for Individuals

19 Fall Festivals & Autumn Events To Visit In Colorado In October

With the end of summer comes the end of a lot of plants in your garden. While some will keep growing into and through the winter months, now is a great time to get outside and clean up your garden. Have the kids help pull out all the dead plants, leaves and weeds. It may sound counter-intuitive, but you do not want your garden to sit bare/exposed all winter.

From cider sipping to leaf watching, to visiting Charlie Brown’s Great Pumpkin patch, historic trains are taking families to fall’s hottest spots. Enjoy fall’s favorite vegetable by making a delicious, creamy, homemade batch of pumpkin soup. Jazz it up with additions like bacon, curry, lentils, apples, or even miso. Sometimes it’s the simplest pastimes that create the best memories. Gather your family or friends around the campfire for good company and s’mores. Get creative by using your kitchen stove (or even a candle!) to roast marshmallows.

Wreaths and banners are another great way to punctuate your porch, and make for a fun and craft-filled afternoon with the kids. Both your deck and your front porch are perfect staging spots for a touch of seasonal swag. Whether you prefer bright orange pumpkins, dappled gourds, or a fragrant bouquet of mums, your space will benefit from the additional color and texture. Weber’s Farm and Cider Mill has opened its doors to visitors every September through December for the last 60-plus years.

Button up your plaid top, bust out the honky-tonk records, and gather your friends together for an outdoor, down-home square dance. Gather ’round the fire with your close friends and tell your scariest ghost stories (bonus points if you swear they’re true). Whether shrieks of delight or fear, a good time is sure to be had by all.

I’m from Florida so we don’t spend a ton of time outside during the summer. Now that it’s cooling off I’m excited to go for walks, ride my bike and go to the park. Visit the Zoo/Petting Zoo – this has been on my adventure list all summer.

The miniature golf course is decorated for Halloween, and so is the maze. The best part is the wagon ride through “The Boneyard.” There are skeletons playing chess, dressed as Ninja Turtles, fighting Darth Vader, and much more. Opens on Oct. 1, 2021 and runs through Oct. 30, 2021. Glen Ray’s Corn Maze and Pumpkin Patch is a fun spot for families.

It’s one thing that we can do nearly anywhere and keeps the kids busy for a good long time. One of our favorite ways to get creative with this is to add a camera. I have an old point-and-shoot camera that I let the kids borrow and give them a list of things to find.
