Much of this land is surrounded by private properties and limits public access. These conservation parcels continue to fulfill their intended role of protecting the natural and scenic character of the Denver foothills. A short growing season makes life a challenge for the park’s slow-growing tundra wildflowers. Park visitors are asked to stay on trails to avoid adding to their challenging environment. Look for “spring” in early July at this elevation, with fall following quickly by mid-August.

When the park has issued a fire ban, regardless of the Air Quality banner status, park visitors must follow the park’s guidelines/restrictions. Complete an Environmental Assessment required by BLM prior to leasing land for recreation facilities in the Vulture Mountains. This document is to serve as a master plan for the recreational development of the property that is consistent with the lease agreement between the Village of Ruidoso and the New Mexico State Land Office.

The Arena is adjacent to the South Mountain Reservation, a 2,000 acre natural reserve which offers open space, picnic areas, barbecue sites, hiking trails, paddle boats and more.

The 4,795 acre Sand Mountain Recreation Area is a designated OHV fee site located in the high desert of west central Nevada twenty-five miles south east of Fallon on U.S. 50 in Churchill County. The recreation area also includes the Sand Springs Pony Express Station historical site and the Sand Springs Desert Study Area. You can see the iconic radio towers at Deer Point summit from throughout the Treasure Valley. Whether you’re commuting to work, picking up your kids from school, or visiting the area, you’ll probably see them every day.

Remember at Rocky Mountain Recreation Company, “We Create Positive Memories”. Camp hosts will be responsible for cleaning and policing the campgrounds. These duties include daily cleaning of the bathrooms/toilets, removing ashes from fire pits, picking up litter, washing picnic tables and grills, and raking campsites in preparation for new guests.

For a few years now, McCormack said the Mountain Rec board has contemplated a bond issue for expanded facilities. To that end, the district has completed surveys in all three communities to learn what residents want in terms of recreation programs and buildings. Red Rocks Park boasts a 200-mile panoramic view of Denver and plains with hiking trails on which to observe the striking geologic features of the park. Due to the large number of visitors the park receives and its sensitive natural areas, all park visitors must stay on designated trails. Off-trail use and rock climbing are strictly prohibited. Highway 74 runs through the park, with three parking areas to access the park.
